Located just one block from George Town’s main shopping street, Ben Hyron’s Cottage is the oldest weatherboard structure remaining in the town.
Learn about Ben Hyron, transported from England to Tasmania in 1818 for passing counterfeit coins; he was pardoned in 1832 and moved to George Town in 1855. Escape to this era, as you enjoy warmth from an open fire in the convict brick fireplace during a time when gold was discovered at nearby Lefroy and Beaconsfield.
