Derby Tin Centre

Derby Tin Mine Centre is located on the main street of Derby, north-east Tasmania.
Derby became a mining boom town soon after the Krushka brothers discovered tin there in 1876. From then until 1945 there were many famous mines around the town.
In the old school grounds at Derby a mining shanty town has been created, complete with general store, blacksmiths shed, mine office, butchers shop, a printing office, the gaol and huts and cottages. The school houses a museum, with old photographs and displays, such as the working apparatus used for alluvial tin mining. You can pan for gemstones and tin, and enjoy a home-made miners lunch in the tea rooms.
Enjoy the mountains, rainforests and old tin mines that surround Derby. The town is approximately 90-minutes’ drive (104 kilometres/65 miles) north-east of Launceston.
