Duck House - The
The Duck House is a heritage bed and breakfast in Burnie, on Tasmania’s northwest coast. Burnie is less than two hours from Launceston (148 kilometres) and a half hour drive from Devonport (49 kilometres).
The two-bedroom Duck House can accommodate up to five guests. The house is furnished in heritage-style, with antiques, memorabilia and iron beds in the bedrooms. There is a fully-equipped kitchen adjoined by a country-style breakfast room. There is also a lounge and formal dining room and the bathroom has a claw foot bath. Provisions for a full English breakfast, including eggs, bacon and croissants, are supplied. Guests are invited to pick their own herbs and citrus from the rear garden.
The cottage is named for its original owners, Salvation Army Captain Bill Duck and his wife Winifred. The late 19th century timber cottage is a minutes’ walk from the beach, local park, art gallery, botanical gardens and walking tracks. In Burnie you can sample local produce including gourmet cheeses, visit a nearby penguin colony to see Fairy Penguins return to their burrows at dusk, or go on a platypus-spotting tour.
