Mt Lyell Anchorage
Mt Lyell Anchorage is a large five bedroom bed and breakfast accommodation located in Queenstown. Four rooms have queen size beds and one room has twin single beds with a trundle bed available. It has a fully equipped kitchen, guest lounge with television, laundry facilities and two bathrooms, one with shower, the other with a bath and separate shower. Some undercover parking is available.
All accommodation is ground floor and easy access. Rooms are large with beautiful 12 feet high pressed tin ceilings.
The house was built in about 1898 as a mine managers’ residence in Zeehan. It was then purchased by Mt Lyell Mining Company and transported by train to Queenstown pre World War One to become a boarding house for their mine workers. The property is 200 metres from Queenstown’s main street and most town facilities.
The West Coast Wilderness railway station is also only 200 metres away. Visit historic Penghana House, a national trust building formally the local mine manager’s residence. For more on our history visit the Galley Museum or do an underground mine tour. Explore the stunning mountains and lakes close by, go trout fishing or play a round of golf at the local course
