Heemskirk Motor Hotel
The Heemskirk Motor Hotel offers motel accommodation at Zeehan, in Tasmania’s west. Zeehan is a classified historic town, two hours’ drive south west of Burnie (155 kilometres) and forty minutes from Strahan (46 kilometres).
The Heemskirk Motor Hotel offers motel style units and two-bedroom self-contained apartments, all with en suites, heating, a television and direct dial telephone. The self-contained apartments also have one queen-size and one twin bedroom, and a fully equipped kitchen. You can enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the Hotel bar, order a meal in the licensed restaurant or try your luck in the Eureka gaming room.
In the early 20th century, Zeehan was Tasmania’s third largest town, with a population of 10,000 people. You can discover the town’s rich mining heritage at the West Coast Pioneer Memorial Museum. Take a walk to see Zeehan’s many historic buildings, including the Gaiety Theatre. Built in 1899 as Australia’s largest concert hall and theatre (seating 1,000 patrons), the Gaiety was restored and re-opened in 2006. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, performers from around the world, including Enrico Caruso, Dame Nellie Melba and the infamous Lola Montez, came here to perform for packed audiences of wealthy miners.
