Bird River and Pillinger TourPillinger is an historic township located on the banks of Macquarie Harbour. Pillinger in the 1800s was a thriving centre of thousands of people and it was where one of the two Mt Lyell companies, who were rivals, had their headquarters and their wharfage area. Most of the town has now been reclaimed by the forest, however some substantial and fascinating relics await your discovery. Lake Johnson Nature Reserve TourTour by four wheel drive to the ancient Huon Pine on the slopes of Mt Read near Rosebery. The tour will only permit limited numbers each day. Bookings are essential. Montezuma Falls TourA 3.5 hour four wheel drive tour providing a comfortable, safe trip for those who prefer only short walks. Just 15 minutes from the falls left to go after your exhilarating drive. The track to Montezuma Falls is an interesting west coast walk that combines scenic rainforests, an old railway line and one of Tasmanias highest waterfalls. The 104 metre high falls are located on the line of the old North East Dundas Tramway which ran between Melba Flats and Williamsford. Montezuma was the name of the last Aztec emperor of Mexico (1466-1520). In Tasmania, his name appears to have originally been applied to a mining company - the Montezuma Silver Mining Company, which was formed in 1891 and held leases on the northern slopes of Mount Dundas. Pasminco Mine TourA two hour guided tour of Pasminco Zinc Mine Surface area, tailing dams and town area. One hundred year plus of mining history with a strong future. Pasmincos underground is in the heart of Mount Black, a heavily timbered mountain area. The milling and crushing area is at the base of Mount Black on the very edge of the township of Rosebery. | |
