World Heritage Cruises

World Heritage Cruises is located in Strahan on Tasmania’s beautiful and rugged west coast. It takes you by catamaran into the world’s last great temperate rainforest. Choose from a morning or afternoon journey deep into the World Heritage Area.
Five successive generations of Grinings have explored every bend of the mighty Gordon River; they began as pioneer settlers and ferried their first passengers in 1896.
Today, Guy and Troy Grining share the passion of their ancestors. Their new 36 metre catamaran Eagle is the most advanced vessel to cruise the Gordon River. The vessels extra large windows and spacious layout provides the maximum in passenger comfort on a morning or afternoon cruise. Each cruise includes an informative narrative and interpretation of Tasmania’s west coast.
Your experience includes a visit to Hell's Gates, the 200 metre entrance to Macquarie Harbour named by convicts on their way to the infamous former prison on Sarah Island. Two hours on the Gordon River follows – and a buffet lunch featuring locally-grown smoked salmon.
At Heritage Landing passengers disembark to explore the rainforest and to spend time at the base of a Huon pine tree that was a mere seedling 2,000 years ago.

Gordon River Cruise

The tour takes you across Macquarie Harbour (six times larger than Sydney Harbour) before entering the Gordon River. The experience includes sweeping vistas of Macquarie Harbour, Hell's Gates (the harbour's narrow entrance), aquaculture pens brimming with Atlantic salmon and Sarah Island, a ‘hell on earth' to some of Van Diemen's Land's toughest convicts. The island's sweet name belies its notorious reputation and the one-hour tour through ruins of the penal settlement is sobering. But the Island has an intriguing twist in the tale, which is brought to life by energetic guides and will leave you smiling. Two hours on the wide, brown Gordon River follows. The serenity of this timeless wilderness experience is rejuvenating and is the undoubted highlight of the cruise. A stroll in ancient forests at Heritage Landing puts you shoulder-to-shoulder with Huon pine and myrtle trees more than 2,000 years old. The buffet luncheon featuring locally grown smoked salmon completes the day and sets the scene for the relaxing journey home. Seating onboard Eagle is allocated with the option of standard or premium seats, Passenger have access to the entire vessel with additional seating outside to enjoy the Heritage Morning Cruise.
