There are a number of spectacular coastal rock formations in the area, including the Tessellated Pavement, Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen, the Blowhole and 400 metre-high sea cliffs - the highest in Australia. The area has a rich convict history; the Port Arthur Historic Site is a 20-kilometre drive south of Eaglehawk Neck.
A hotel has stood on the Lufra site for over 150 years. Australian aviation pioneer Sir Reginald Ansett, who built the current hotel in 1948, once described the Lufra as "the hotel with the best view in the world”.
