East Gippsland Rail Trail
A long and varied journey, the East Gippsland Rail Trail travels through a variety of forest and farmland landscapes between the regional hub town of Bairnsdale and Orbost on the Snowy River. You can hop on and off the 94km route, stopping to see the area's many attractions. Tracing the path of an old railway line, the trail offers views of the Gippsland Lakes, heads through grazing land and small farming townships and crosses the Nicholson River on an old railway bridge. Have a tasting at the Nicholson winery then continue through tall forest to Bruthen, where there are spectacular views of the Mossiface flats. There are plans to eventually extend the trail to the seaside town of Marlo at the mouth of the Snowy River.
