At the mid point of the Great Ocean Road in coastal Victoria, Australia, rising up from the Southern Ocean, lies Moonlight Head. It is here that we find Moonlight Head Lodge, a magical combination of privacy, tranquillity and luxury in total harmony with nature.
Set against a backdrop of the ocean and the many greens that make up the Australian bush, the luxury lodges of some 260m2, at Moonlight Head have been designed by the acclaimed Australian Architect Glenn Murcutt.
Approaching Moonlight Head Private Lodge through the bucolic, cow-lined fields of surrounding farmland doesn't prepare you for two things. Firstly, the views that open up of the majestic, surf-fringed beaches of the Great Ocean Road ahead of you, and the towering, bush-clad cliffs which line them. And secondly, the elongated, almost living brick structures which sit, supine, on the more manicured fields of the Lodge proper. Three separate structures cluster together, but each faces out to gaze at a different aspect of bush, cliff and ocean.
The ambience filling each room is created from modern pieces of furniture, antique Persian rugs thrown over blue stone floors. Understated European chic is the key to the décor. With furniture from B&B Italia, Cassina, Poltrona Frau all complemented with lighting from Artemide. This is all set against perfect white walls that spread the abundance of sunshine and moonlight throughout the lodge.
From Moonlight there are 100 things to do. Active days include, hiking the Great Ocean Walk, fishing, playing a round of golf, horse back riding or canoeing with the platypus are some of the experiences offered.
Peace and tranquillity are rare commodities, at Moonlight Head they are in abundant supply. A sanctuary for man and kangaroo, without a jet trail in the sky, the perfect refuge in which to soothe the soul and refresh the body.
