Werribee Park

Werribee Park is an outstanding cultural and heritage attraction offering a full diversity of experiences within the one location.

From the lowlands of Scotland, Thomas and Andrew Chirnside travelled to Australia in the mid 1800s. Armed with determination and motivated by their family motto Do or Die , the brothers set about creating a vast pastoral empire. Werribee Park is a testament to their successful business venture whilst offering visitors of today a rare glimpse into the extravagant opulence of a bygone era.

Step back in time in the superbly restored Mansion and listen to the Chirnside family chatter through a fantastic audio tour. Meet May, an enthusiastic laundry maid with a tragic story to tell.

Ten hectares of exquisite formal gardens surround the Mansion and feature an ornamental parterre, grotto, heritage listed trees and expansive manicured lawns. With spectacular highlights every season the garden is the perfect place to relax with a picnic or take a leisurely stroll all year round.

Immerse yourself within the internationally acclaimed Victoria State Rose Garden. Rich in colour and fragrance over 5,000 rose bushes bloom from November to April within four uniquely shaped designs. Explore the Werribee Park Sculpture Walk, a unique outdoor exhibition which perfectly blends contemporary Australian sculpture with the natural landscape. Wander through the riverine, a natural and cultural treasure. Wurundjeri history along Wirribi Yaluk, known today as Werribee River, dates back over 40,000 years with acknowledged cultural heritage sites providing an insight into the Kurung Jang Balluk clan and their harmonious relationship with mother earth.

With our neighbours including Werribee Open Range Zoo, Shadowfax Winery and Sofitel Mansion & Spa there is something for everyone.
