Geraldton Port
It was the need to establish facilities for the export of lead from the Geraldine Mine that resulted in a port being built at Champion Bay. Today Geraldton is the capital and port city for the Mid West Region.
There are few places if any in Australia where the general public has the opportunity to get a really close up view of the activities and operation of a major port.
1999-2000 was a record year for the port, handling nearly four million tonnes of grain, an amount three and a half percent higher than the pervious year.
Grains exported through Geraldton are wheat, lupins, canola, barley and oats.
