Big Dish

The Big Dish was part of the OTC ‘earth station’ built solely for the two way relay of voice and data between the NASA Carnarvon Space Tracking Station and the US via a geo-stationary Pacific satellite. The dish has a 29.6 metre diameter reflector and is Carnarvon's most obvious landmark.

Open for 21 years from 1966 and closed down in 1987, the dish was of major importance to global communications.

The building is not open, however the dish can be visited and the site has panoramic views of Carnarvon and the plantations.
