Awestronomy on the Beach

Explore our awesome universe as the stars take their ride in the vivid blaze of Monkey Mia's stunning night sky. This is an astronomy experience with a different twist. Before you venture into the darkness we'll stretch your mind with the challenging vastness of space, using a graphic and simple explanation of the universe. You'll understand how stars are born and die and how life has formed. You'll probably wonder, not if there are other life-forms, but what the other life forms are. You'll step into the night and be directed to the stars with our Star Wars style, three kilometre long, laser wand. You'll learn the technique for touring the night sky with binoculars instead of a telescope and you'll be amazed at what is revealed to you. At the end of the session you'll receive your own sky map (includes the Astrological Zodiac) so you can continue to identify the major stars, planets, constellations and galaxies that you've just met and you'll meet someone from outer space!

Big Half Day Coast to Coast

Visit both sides of South Peron Peninsula for breathtaking views of Shark Bay. Even if you've been to Eagle Bluff before, chances are you'll not have seen this part of it. On either side of you stretches the coastline of Australia's largest bay while below you, sharks and rays flow through the shallows. Across the bay shimmers the white salt pyramids of Useless Loop, which each week produces thousands of tonnes of salt using only the power of the sun. Then head off for an exciting four wheel drive climb which ultimately puts you on top of the coastal dunes of South Peron Peninsula where you'll enjoy a secluded and delicious morning tea. Travelling off the beaten track along the coastline, you'll eventually arrive at a stunning private part of Shell Beach known only to locals. Whilst you may have previously visited the public Shell Beach, it won't compare to this spectacle. Then on to the middle of the Peninsula you'll find an artesian bore site where once the warm waters from the heart of Mother Earth flowed unrestricted. Further along the track to an old shearing shed, you'll find out how different settlements adapted to live in outback Australia.

Extreme Sundown Sail

For the adventurous and young at heart. Get set for a blast of pure excitement - wind in your hair, spray on your face and a grin that won't go away. Climb aboard one of Australia's ocean-racing legends - "Shotover", 60 feet of awesome, record smashing, ocean-racing catamaran that demolished the 1200 miles from Australia to New Zealand in just 97 hours. Hang on for a thrill ride on the wild side when the big cat gets let off the leash. We supply weatherproofs to keep you warm and dry. If the wind doesn't blow then you may choose to join this milder, sunset sail complete with mellow music, or postpone to a windier day, or cancel and get a complete refund.

Francois Peron National Park

This is a full day trip through rugged, red shrub-land, across birridas and over sand dunes to the tip of the Peron Peninsula where nature's stunning palette will take your breath away. Peron Peninsula was a pastoral lease for 130 years before becoming a National Park and home to "Project Eden" - an ambitious exercise in eliminating feral animals and re-establishing endangered native species to mainland Australia. You will visit the Project Eden Interpretive Centre to see which animals are affected and discover why they were affected and you'll also look in the face of the most dangerous creature on the planet! At Cape Peron you'll be moved by the spectacle - a feast of extraordinary, vivid, contrasting colours, ranging from the sun-burnt red cliff and brilliant white beach to the many-hued aqua ocean merging with eternal blue skies. This is home to terns, cormorants and sea eagles and is the foraging ground of a family of special dolphins. Then on to Skipjack Point Lighthouse for a delicious picnic lunch on the cliff top overlooking a natural aquarium of giant stingrays, sharks, turtles, schools of fish and maybe dolphins and dugong.

Luxury Limousine Service

Monkey Mia Wildsights offer a limousine service. You can tailor what you want to see and do, or we can put together an itinerary for you. Our limousine is fully air-conditioned, has a great sound system and is the ultimate in style and luxury.

See the Origin of the Mermaid Myth

This cruise is the same cruise as the "Wow! Wildlife Experience" but with a much better chance of seeing dugong since this is usually when we visit the restricted-access, Dugong Management Zone, into which we are allowed once a day. Dugong feed on sea-grass. Shark Bay has the largest sea-grass banks in the world. Its 10,000 dugongs represent about 10% of the world's dugong population. Although dugong are shy and extremely difficult creatures to find and approach, we have over the last 15 years developed techniques for getting you close without disturbing them. A cameraman, who had previously taken six months to get good footage of the dugong for a documentary, got better shots in half an hour on Shotover. He raved to our guests that they had no idea how hard it was to do what we made seem so simple! Major revelations about dugong behaviour were made by Canadian Professor Paul Anderson during his 20 years of research in Shark Bay. Dr Anderson has assisted us in creating an incredible cruise for you.

Wow! Wildlife Experience

This fascinating two and a half hour wildlife cruise is licensed to take you into the world's most important research site of dolphin behaviour and that's the bay at Monkey Mia. The 120 dolphins in this bay have provided about 95% of the knowledge about dolphin behaviour. Since 1982, scientists have come here from all over the world to unravel the mysteries of dolphin society. So that data can be exchanged between the teams, which are based in various parts of the world, all of the dolphins have been named by the scientists. Your crew know most of the dolphins and will introduce them to you. Most have degrees in Marine or Environmental Science. They'll explain the relationships between the animals; the significance of the behaviour you're seeing; explode some myths about dolphins and reveal lots of secrets. You'll learn how dolphins can identify other dolphins without seeing them; the truth about sharks and dolphins and how dolphins see with sound. You'll hear the dolphins' amazing vocabulary of whistles, squeaks, pops and squeals through a hydrophone (underwater microphone) and your crew will actually interpret the sounds for you. If you love animals you'll love your cruise.
