Edna May Gold Mine
Delve into Western Australia’s colourful gold rush history by visiting the old mining town of Westonia and the Edna May Gold Mine. The old mine site has a lookout which gives a remarkable view over the surrounding landscape, the former mine workings, and the open cast mine which has now filled with water.
The lookout is part of the Golden Pipeline Heritage Drive Trail. You may wish to purchase a trail guide book from the Westonia Shire Office which details the history and significance of the sites along the way.
In 1911, the prospector Edmund John Annear applied for the first mining lease for Edna May site which he mined until 1922. In 1935 mining resumed before the mine was again closed in 1947. ACM Gold reopened operations in 1985 until 1991. Recently Westonia Mines have found a sufficient body of gold ore and nickel sulphide to consider recommencing operations.
The Edna May Gold Mine is one kilometre north of Westonia. Westonia is a four hour drive east of Perth.
