Pergandes Sheepyards
On the drive between Bencubbin and Mukinbudin is the intriguing and unusual sight of the Pergandes Sheepyards. These little rock formations have been compared to Stonehenge.
Whilst the sheepyards are located on private property, they are clearly visible from the roadside and provide you with an excellent photo opportunity. They were built in the 1920s by early settlers to the area, using granite located on nearby land.
Just a few minutes along the road you will find Marshall Rock, where you will be rewarded with a panoramic view across the Wheatbelt. This area is renowned for its extensive display of wildflowers. Try and time your visit between June and October and you will be overwhelmed by the beauty of the countryside covered by wildflowers.
The town of Bencubbin is just a three and a half hour drive northeast of Perth. Several meteorites were discovered in the region in the early 1900s. Most of the meteorite has been removed and can be seen in the Western Australian Museum in Perth. However, a visit to the Shire of Mt Marshall office will provide you with the opportunity to see part of the rock which has been aptly named the Bencubbin.
