Red Hill Lookout
For an amazing view over the vast expanse of shimmering salt lakes near the goldfields town of Kambalda, head to Red Hill Lookout.
The area is dotted with spectacular white salt lakes, formed due to a lack of rainfall. Lake Lefroy is the biggest and most impressive.
Red Hill Lookout offers an excellent bushwalking trail to the summit. Once at the top you’ll be rewarded with fantastic views of pure white salt contrasting against the bright blue sky and surrounding scrub land.
Land sailing is a popular pastime on Lake Lefroy and on particular days of the month it’s possible to see them tear along the salt plains. These vehicles look like catamarans on wheels and can reach speeds of up to 140 kilometres per hour.
From Red Hill Lookout you can also see the mining operations in the area.
There are undercover chairs and tables in a shaded area perfect for a picnic.
Kambalda is about a half an hour drive from the goldfields hub of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
