Culham Inlet

The Culham Inlet is located on the eastern flank of East Mount Barren, seven kilometres west of Hopetoun. The Phillips and the Steere River drain to Culham Inlet.

Culham Inlet is often referred to as a `transient estuary' as it seldom opens to the sea. Culham Inlet has only broken naturally a few times in the last 150 years.

The inlet is shallow and often dries out in summer. It generally fills up from winter rainfall, and may even hold water for several years. There is a healthy amount of birdlife around the inlet making it an ideal location for birdwatchers.

Climb to the top of the East Mount Barren lookout. The wildflowers are magnificent in bloom during spring, making for excellent bushwalking. One unique variety of wildflower to be found here is the Hakea Victoriae (Royal Hakea).
