Great Country Drive
The Great Country Drive is a 100 kilometre scenic loop that takes you inland to various attractions hidden out of town. Start your journey at the Esperance Visitor Centre where the friendly staff will give you brochures and extra information about the Drive. It is highly recommended that you contact individual attractions to confirm opening times. Head out 14 kilometres to Lake Monjingup, a beautiful nature reserve where you can admire many birds and plants, as well as wildflowers in season. It’s a great spot for a picnic. The next stop is the Dalyup River Winery; open week-ends, for a delicious wine tasting.
Further along the drive, if you’re getting hungry, the Gibson Soak Pub/Restaurant offers great meals. You can then go and have a look at Helms Arboretum, get some olive products from Patroni Olive Farm, then either drive out to Hellfire Gallery / Cape Le Grand National Park or drive back into town for a walk on the Kepwari Trail in the wetlands.
You can then have a look at Mermaid Leather, the fish skin leather factory, and end you journey at the Yabby Farm to buy some fresh Yabby. If you still need something to do after that, don’t hesitate to go back to the Visitor Centre!
