Rabbit-Proof Fence Boundary
The Rabbit-Proof Fence was constructed between 1901 and 1907 to try and stop the invasion of rabbits and other agricultural pests out of Western Australian pastoral areas.
There are three fences that make up the Rabbit-Proof Fence and stretch 3,230 kilometres from Hopetoun to Cape Keraudren on the north west coast.
A movie, “Rabbit-Proof Fence” based on the book “Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence” by Doris Pilkington Garimara was made in 2002. It is a true story concerning the author's mother, as well as two other young Aboriginal girls. The film follows the girls as they walked for nine weeks along 2,400 kilometres of the rabbit-proof fence to return to their community.
