Jaburara Heritage Trail
The Jaburara Heritage Trail is a 3.5 kilometre walk highlighting the Karratha districts natural history and cultural heritage and in particular its traditional inhabitants, the Jaburara Aboriginal Tribe.
The trail traces the culture and lifestyle of those inhabitants, the impact of white settlement since the 1860's and the even more spectacular effects of the resources boom from the early 1960s.
It covers rugged country with some steep climbs and descents and features a number of aboriginal sites including rock engravings and artefact scatters.
The trail commences from the water tanks over-looking the Karratha town centre and access is via the information bay on Karratha Road.
There are also two short branch trails and three longer branch trails. The longer trails are an Aboriginal trail around the base of the hills, a recreational trail following the ridge top and a nature trail along two major valley's.
Allow two to three hours to enjoy the full trail at a leisurely pace. Some physical exertion may be required on some sections of the trails.
