Monte Bello Island
Go fishing, diving and snorkelling at fascinating Montebello Islands, north of Onslow off the North West coast.
The Montebello Islands offers deep sea fishing boat charters and harbours an amazing array of marine life including rare turtles, a variety of whales, all sorts of fish, and sea birds.
The area has a fascinating history and achieved international notoriety in the 1950s when atomic bomb tests were conducted by the British defence forces. You can learn more about this history by visiting Trimouille and Alpha Islands where relics of the detonation and infrastructure still exist.
The islands and their surrounding waters have recovered and now support a diverse range of wildlife.
The fishing is excellent while the many reefs in the area make for excellent snorkelling, diving and surfing.
The best way to access the Montebello Islands is by boat charter or sea safari from Onslow or Dampier. There’s no accommodation available on the islands.
Onslow is a day and a half’s drive from Perth.
