Old Timber Jetty

The timber jetty was commenced in 1864 and was to be 427 metres in length. In 1957, after several extensions, it reached its ultimate length of 1,830 metres.

Due to the development of the inner harbour during the 1970s the jetty ceased commercial shipping in October, 1982. It is now used for pedestrian traffic and is a popular fishing and crabbing spot.

The jetty is in need of repair and local community groups have been rallying for preservation of this historic structure for many years now and the Old Timber Jetty Preservation Society have opened up a small museum in what was Bunbury's original Post Office on the corner of Stephen and Wittenoom Streets, Bunbury.
