Railway Memorial Cairn

A short drive or bike-hike from Katanning is the Memorial Cairn that marks the
completion of the Great Southern Railway. The railway was built by the Western Australia Land Company and joined at this spot in 1889.

Track layers started at Beverley and Albany. This was the start of the town
of Katanning and although the district was settled, Kojonup was the only town that had been started. Broomehill and Cartmeticup were settlements.
