Trevelen Farm Wines
Trevelen Farm is the most northerly of the Great Southern Wineries situated just four minutes off the Albany Highway some 307 kilometres south of Perth (comfortable three hour drive). They are 100 kilometres north of Albany, making it an ideal stop off point on the trip down to Albany or up to Perth.
They offer comfortable and picturesque surroundings where visitors will be greeted with the warmest, happiest service. They have a beautiful, large country garden in which travellers can stretch their legs. An expansive view of the Stirling ranges across the rolling countryside can be enjoyed from the cellar where free wine tasting is offered.
In addition to their award winning current vintages, they offer groups the opportunity to book tastings of back vintages at a small charge of two dollars per person/per vintage. Booking ahead for museum tastings is necessary.
Wine can be purchased at the cellar or ordered and sent to any destination in Australia, city or country. United Kingdom visitors may have the wine they choose delivered to their door by their United Kingdom distributor. Their mail order service can deliver anywhere, although overseas destinations (other than the United Kingdom) will attract additional freight costs.
In the spring they organise bush walks in their own private 300 acres of untouched bushland, the period from the beginning of September to the end of November is the most rewarding time to use this tour.
At the cellar they have a supply of fresh Inland Saltwater Rainbow Trout and live yabbies for the barbecue for sale. These fish are grown out on the property; in salty groundwater pumped out for landcare purposes to lower the groundwater pressure and prevent salinisation of the soil surface. The fact that they are grown out in salty water makes the flavour fresh and clean and above all they never have the muddy taste, which is sometimes found in trout. Trevelen Farm Trout are available from late September right through until the end of May.
There are also specialty cheeses (including a shiraz infused hard cheese and a smoked trout flavoured cheese - to be available soon) for tasting, sale and take away or in cheese boards for consumption at the cellar door.
Trevelen Farm Vineyard is part of a 3,160 actes farm which has been in the family for 37 years. The vineyard is run on environmentally sustainable principles with the spraying program being restricted to elemental sulphur and some herbicide spray to control weeds under vine.
The farm sustains wool and prime lamb production and a cropping program involving canola, wheat, oats, barley and lupins. Areas are planted to perennial pastures and native trees for landcare purposes and to enable a sustainable future.
