Although Rottnest Island's unique accommodation is extremely popular, especially during the summer months, there are plenty of opportunities throughout the year to enjoy an Island holiday. You have a choice of accommodation ranging from villas, bungalows and units.
Due to the popularity of Rottnest as a holiday destination, a ballot for unit accommodation is in place for the Western Australian school holiday period. To secure accommodation during the school holidays you must enter the ballot. For more information please see our website. Periods outside the ballot can be booked up to 12 months in advance. BungalowsBungalows are located in Thomson Bay only. Built in the 1920s and one of the first holiday units on the Island, the bungalows have recently undergone a significant upgrade whilst retaining the important heritage value. Bungalows now have their own bathroom, new floorings, new furniture and a new kitchen. The bungalows come in configurations of four bed and six bed only. Caroline Thomson CabinsThe new look Caroline Thomson area with cedar-clad cabins opened in January 2002. These one room cabins with a veranda feature a kitchenette and separate bathroom, together with two sets of bunks and a double bed. Located in Thomson Bay only. The cabin can sleep up to six guests. Cottages - Heritage ViewCottages are located at Thomson Bay and Kingstown and in the majority of cases are identified as having heritage value. Cottages are defined as heritage and refurbished, and some contain additional features such as microwaves. The cottages come in configurations of four bed, six bed and eight bed. Cottages - Superior ViewCottages are located at Thomson Bay and Kingstown and in the majority of cases are identified as having heritage value. UnitsUnits are situated back from the beach and are mainly located in the Thomson and Fays Bay settlement areas, with three in Geordie Bay. Some of the Thomson Bay units have been refurbished. VillasRefurbished villas are the most popular type of accommodation on Rottnest Island and many villas have spectacular views of the ocean or salt lakes. Most of the villas in Thomson Bay have been refurbished in the past five years. Villas in Geordie Bay, Longreach Bay and Fays Bay have also been recently refurbished.
