The River Retreat
The River Retreat offers a range of performances and activities designed to entertain and educate. We have developed a natural riverside amphitheatre, set under giant River Gums and an all weather performance shed, proving the perfect canvas on which the stories of The Dreamtime and early Colonial Settlement can be experienced.
"Didge After Dark" available Saturday and Wednesday evenings. Join us at dusk for an experience of Aboriginal culture and a taste of true Australian bush tucker. Local Aboriginal people share stories of this land and their meaning and performers demonstrate the dance and culture of their people.
“The Outback Show” celebrates Australia’s Outback heritage. Depicting the lifestyle of those who worked the land and paying homage to past legends and icons from the bush. It captures the atmosphere, hardships and romance of a time when different cultures began to shape this nation and call themselves Australian.
"Ripping Yarns" held on the riverbank or in the performance shed this evening is full of great atmosphere, around the campfire, under the great river gums or inside the old shearing shed. Listen to some stories of colonial Swan Valley told by our "swagman'.
"Maali Mia Cultural Activites" learn how traditional tools were made, throw a boomerang, build a Mia Mia, taste the true flavour of Australia and make your own ochre hand print.
"Maalinup Aboriginal Art Gallery" has a full range of Australian Bush food, jewellery, traditional and contemporary artworks, tools and weapons, books and so much more.
