Crosslands House - Riverleigh
Charles Crossland was a land agent and surveyor, well known in the 1890's for his work laying out the railway line to Midland. In 1897 he built this substantial residence in what was then a favoured location for many wealthy and prominent citizens.
The late 1890's were gold boom times and in Western Australia, and this house is a great example of the influence of the gold rush on architecture. A large brick home complete with cellar and servants quarters. It is perhaps most notable for its Art Nouveau turret, a lovely touch befitting an early Guildford mansion.
