Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail
The Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail at Mundaring Weir commemorates the 1890s achievement of carrying freshwater all the way from the dam to the goldfields, 560 kilometres to the east. It offers a number of scenic tracks and trails through beautiful bushland and the small settlements in the Perth Hills. Travel by horse, bicycle or on foot to immerse yourself in the ever changing countryside.
The 75 kilometre Kep Track traverses forests, fields and bushland along the gentle gradient of the former railway reserve. For the real history enthusiast, you could drive the length of the 560 kilometre pipeline from Mundaring to Kalgoorlie, following the route of the prospectors over one hundred years ago.
There are a number of smaller walk tracks through the gardens and forest surrounding the dam. The two kilometre Weir Walk takes in the immediate surrounds of the dam, and the meandering five kilometre O’Connor Trail includes an expansive view of Lake CY O’Connor.
Visit the well-preserved 100-year-old steam pumping station and view the award-winning display to learn the history of the scheme.
Mundaring Weir is located a short one hour drive from Perth via Kalamunda or Midland.
