Old Blythewood

Old Blythewood is situated on the South Western Highway, 92 kilometres south of Perth on a high bank overlooking the flats of the Murray River, five kilometres beyond the town of Pinjarra.

It was built about 1859, as the first Post Office by John McLarty who came to Swan River Settlement in 1839. He acquired considerable land holdings around Pinjarra, much of which is still farmed by his descendants.

The house and charming garden have been restored by the National Trust following the gift of the property by great grandsons of the original owners.

Restored and opened to the public on April 4th 1976.
