Old Gaol

This fine Georgian stone building (designed by R.R. Jewell) is perhaps one of the best examples of colonial architecture in the state. Built in 1856, it served as Perth's original prison until 1888.

Many public executions took place in the grounds. Today the Old Gaol has been extensively restored. In rooms, which once housed prisoners, visitors can see an old fashioned dental surgery and pharmacy and many mementos which relate to Perth's early days.
