Perth Town Hall

The Perth Town Hall is located on the corner of Hay and Barrack Street at the highest point of the City. Opened in 1870, it is a fine example of the Victorian Free Gothic style with strong medieval overtones. This enchanting historic building has undergone an award-winning restoration and refurbishment, which was completed in 2005.

It is the only convict-built capital city town hall in Australia. Free settlers laid the foundations for the Hall and then convicts completed the building.

The hall is generally open to the public 11am until 1pm weekdays, and historic tours of the Perth Town Hall are conducted Thursdays at 2pm (times may vary so best to ring beforehand).

If you prefer to do things at your own pace, the Perth Town Hall is the first stop on the Convicts and Colonials self guided walk trail. You will be captivated by the rich history, stories and beautiful old buildings in and around the City centre.
