Warrdong - An Aboriginal Experience

The Warrdong Aboriginal Cultural Experience is a Nyoongar Dance group that have travelled and performed all over the state, interstate and internationally

The Group members have been dancing nearly all their lives and have been taught by elders in there family. Different dances have morals and values that teach children about respect for yourself and for the your cultural and the land.

Warrdong Cultural Workshops at Kings Park hold educational talks and tours for the public and school groups. Cultural Workshops include:

Nyoongar Survival Skills – the basic skills which enabled Nyoongar people to survive before European Settlement.

Nyoongar Artefacts – Warrdong teach how traditional Aboriginal artefacts were and still are made by Nyoongar people.

Bush Food and Medicine – People walk past food and medicine everyday and don’t realise it. Warrdong show how, when and where to find food and medicine used by Nyoongar people.

Nyoongar Dance – Dance workshops are fun and teach children the reasons these traditional dances were such an important part of Aboriginal culture.

History – This workshop teaches children the basic Nyoongar language and history of the local area, also the effects of European settlement on things and on Aboriginal people’s lives.

Warrdong Performances
Warrdong travel to perform at many different festivals, functions and schools, promoting Nyoongar culture to the wider community. Warrdong are preserving the native Nyoongar culture in Perth for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations.

Warrdong Welcome to Country
Warrdong are available for Welcome to Country at King’s Park or for private functions. Welcome to Country is a protocol or acknowledgement by the Nyoongar people to visitors to Nyoongar land.
