Proclamation Tree
Near the corner of Adelaide and Edward Streets grows a magnificent Moreton Bay Fig tree. It was planted by the colony's first govenor, Sir Willaim Robinson, on Proclamation Day (21 October 1890) and is a living memorial to the granting of responsible government to Western Australia.
His Excellency said that he hoped the tree would flourish and that its growth and size would be symbolical of the growth and magnitude of the free institutions and prosperity in store for the colony.
