Bibbulmun Track

Opened in 1998, the award winning Bibbulmun Track is one of the world’s great long-distance walk trails stretching nearly 1000 kilometres from the Perth Hills to the historic town of Albany on the south coast.

The Track is for walkers only and is named after an Aboriginal group from the south-west. It is signposted with yellow triangular markers symbolising the ‘waugal’ (rainbow serpent of the Aboriginal dreamtime). The Track takes walkers through towering Karri and Tingle forests, down mist-shrouded valleys, over giant granite boulders and along breathtaking coastal heathlands. From a gentle day stroll to enjoy the peace and beauty of the natural environment, to an epic eight week adventure. You can make it a wilderness experience by camping out, you can join a guided group, or you can do it in comfort by staying in the towns along the Track and enjoying day walks in the area.

Track facilities include 48 bush walker campsites, each with a three-sided timber sleeping shelter, pit toilet, rainwater tank, tent areas and picnic tables. Fire rings are also available outside fire risk areas/times.

Although the Track is well marked, walkers are advised to use a map or guidebook. The eight coloured maps and two compact and informative guide books (Northern and Southern) show car access points, campsites, terrain profiles and distances tables, and are available from the Bibbulmun Track Foundation.

A wide variety of short walks, interpretive tours and accommodation and walking packages are offered by the lively Bibbulmun Track Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that helps promote and maintain the Track. The Bibbulmun Track Foundation provides a free information service, information seminars, equipment hire and merchandise sales.

If you are planning your own walk should visit the Bibbulmun Track Foundation’s website for a link to the latest Track conditions.

Wheelchair Access: Designated as a single use trail for walkers only. However, the 2.5 kilometre section from Brookton Highway to Brookton Campsite can be accessed by wheelchairs. The shelter and toilet at the campsite have been designed for people with disabilities.
