Unanderra is bounded by the Unanderra railway line, the suburbs of Farmborough Heights and Figtree to the north, and Five Islands Road, Berkeley, Mullet Creek, the AIS railway line to the south. The locality of Dombarton lies to the west.

The name Unanderra comes from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘meeting place of creeks’ or the ‘junction of the two creeks’ (Unanderra was previously known as Charcoal or Charcoal Creek).

Major features of the area include the Kembla Grange Racecourse, Galloping Golf Driving Range, Unanderra Pool and the BHP Sports Stadium.
