Victoria's snowfields can be just as challenging and invigorating. From June to October, snowsports fanatics flock to resorts such as Falls Creek, Hotham - Australia's "Powder Capital" - and the well-known resorts of Mt Buller, Mt Buffalo, Mt Stirling and Mt Baw Baw.
All of them offer fabulous downhill and cross-country skiing and world-class accommodation and facilities.
Victoria's alpine villages are nestled in the slopes, so you can ski straight to and from your ski lodge door giving you more time for skiing, apres skiing, sleeping and having fun.
Accommodation ranges from resorts and youth hostels to hotels and serviced apartments. Plenty of skis, snowboards and equipment hire are also available.
Mt Buller is the resort for everyone from beginners to experts,has the freatest liftcapacity of the Victorian alpine resorts, and is a handy 25 kilometres from Melbourne, making it ideal for a day trip.
Falls Creek,Victoria's largest resort, is a well-rounded mountain with a whole range of slopes, but is known for the best cross country terrrain in Australia. It is not usually as crowded as other resorts.
Hotham holds the record for the state's highest snow falls over the past decade. You can fly direct from Melbourne or Sydney to the Mount Hotham Airport, just 20 kilometres from the resort. Nearby Mt Buffalo Alpine Resort is located in the Mt Buffalo National Park one of Australia's oldest and most beautiful National Parks.
Mt Stirling, Lake Mountain and Mt Baw Baw are closer to Melbourne, offer cross country trails in beautiful settings, and are good places for beginners and intermediate skiers to take to the slopes.
